St Bees Independent School

Sadly, St Bees School closed at the end of summer 2015, but will be re-opening in September 2018.

St Bees School has a history dating back more than 400 years. It was founded in 1583 by Archbishop Grindal who was born in the village.

The school has its own web site and updates on possible re-opening are posted there.

Important update - May 2017

New Head Teacher Appointed to St Bees School

Following a rigorous recruitment and interview process, the Trustees and Full Circle Education Group are delighted to announce the appointment of Jeremy Hallows as Headteacher Designate of St Bees School. He will formally take up post in September 2017, and the school will reopen in September 2018.

Jeremy Hallows is currently Head of the Senior School at Bromsgrove School. With an excellent leadership history in co-educational boarding schools (including the world renowned Millfield School) and with the right credentials and passion to lead the school through this period of renaissance, he was chosen as the perfect appointment for this important post.

Mr Hallows said: “It is an honour to take on responsibility for the stewardship of St Bees at this incredibly exciting time in its history. I am looking forward to immersing myself in the life of the community and to engage with the many parents who have already expressed such strong interest in enrolling their children at St Bees next year. The educational landscape is changing rapidly, and we will embrace the best modern methods whilst promoting the all-important care, traditions and values which are at the heart of the best independent education and reflect Archbishop Grindal’s legacy.
