The Copeland Local Plan 2013-2028
The current statutory Local Plan incorporates a range of planning documents under the umbrella title of the Local Development Framework (LDF). CBC says; "The most important of these are the Core Strategy and the Development Management Development Planning Document (DPD) which cover a 15 year time horizon (2013 - 2028)"
This can be seen at
For detail within communities the Site Allocations and Policies Plan applies.
"The Site Allocations and Policies Plan will demonstrate how the adopted Core Strategy, and crucially the policies which outline the borough’s ambitious targets for growth and development, will be delivered on the ground, as well as identifying areas to be protected from development. Together with the adopted Core Strategy and Development Management Policies it will provide the basis for determining planning applications."
The draft proposals for St Bees can be seen on the map at http://www.copeland.gov.uk/content/stbees.
The map is a good guide to the conservation areas and development boundary in the village.
Recently there has been consultation on the statutory Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA) for St Bees which contributes to this framework. The purpose of this is to consider possible strategic area needs for housing, and allocate suitable land. The PC submitted comments to the draft before the deadline on the 20th March 2015 in which we endorsed the draft position that there is no further need for strategic housing allocation in the parish. As you will see from the current draft, all except the existing building site adjacent to the Priory graveyard has been discounted. The underlying information for this can be seen at http://www.copelandbc.gov.uk/sites/default/files/attachments/site_assessment_west_copeland.pdf
However the final version resulting from this consultation is awaited.
